Lightwave Offers EDID-ification

Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) can cause headaches for system integrators.

A data structure provided by a computer display to describe its capabilities to a graphics card, EDID is what enables a pc to know what kind of monitor is connected.

EDID is defined by a standard published by VESA. If the support for a format is not indicated in the display device's EDID, then (according to the standard) the source is forbidden to send this type of signal.

NEC Aims Multeos at Design-Loving Customers

With the Multeos M401 and M461 public displays, NEC Display Solutions launches 40" and 46" monitors with 1920 x 1080 resolution for the design-minded.

"It very often happens that store owners choose TV sets when it comes to selecting screens for their digital signage systems – for design reasons," says Thorsten Prsybyl, Product Line Manager Public Displays Europe at NEC Display Solutions. Their panels, however, fall significantly short of dedicated public displays in terms of quality and reliability. "With the Multeos product range, we are focusing on customers that appreciate professional technology and an appealing design," continues Prsybyl.

The NEC Option Slot for expansion modules such as the built-in PC or the DVI Daisy Chain Board offers technical as well as visual advantages. The extensions replace external distribution equipment and the cables they depend upon.

ATI Eyefinity's Panoramic Future

A display adapter to extend the computer to multiple separate displays in multiple positions or nearby locations, ATI Eyefinity transforms the relationship of the PC and the display.

AMD expects ATI Eyefinity to simplify deployment of many commercial solutions and open new avenues for home computing.

Previously, one user employs one PC with one workspace spanning one or two monitors. Now the paradigm evolves to several new-use models (all modify the single-session/ single person /single screen paradigm).

Epson Ships Their Brightest Projector Ever

The $20,000 PowerLite Pro Z8000WUNL (geez, please put a dash somewhere in that model number) is now shipping in USA.

Spec'd at 6000 ANSI lumens, the WUXGA projector (1920x1200) offers up a 5000:1 contrast ratio, a unique liquid cooling system (something that reminds me of the early days of CRTs) and features Epson's high-aperture 3-chip 3LCD technology.

The PowerLite Pro Z8000WUNL is great for rental as it includes a center-mounted lens design as well as +/- 70 degree vertical and +/- 20 horizontal shift.

Galaxy NW-7, Barco's 3-chip DLP Projector

Barco Galaxy NW-7 projector, the 3-chip DLP, 7000 lumens projector with WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution, is designed for high-resolution, multi-channel setups, such as domes and immersive systems.

Its active 3D stereo capabilities aim at apps in scientific research and virtual design, while its smearing reduction makes it an attractive choice for simulated fast-jet training. Both applications typically use multi-projector systems.

NW-7 extends the company's portfolio of Galaxy projectors (with high-brightness model NW-12). However, NW-7's 7 Read more...
