AWS Opens Frankfurt Region

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announces new datacentres in Frankfurt, Germany, making a 2nd region in the EU and the 11th for the company, opening AWS cloud computing services for more European customers.

Amazon insists the data center confirms to all compliance standards, including ISO 21001, SOC 1 (formerly SAS 70) and PCI DSS Level 1, as well as all applicable EU data protection laws. It also provides data processing agreements for customers wanting to comply with EU data protection requirements.

“Our European business continues to grow dramatically,” AWS says. “By opening a second European region, and situating it in Germany, we’re enabling German customers to move more workloads to AWS, allowing European customers to architect across multiple EU regions, and better balancing our substantial European growth.”

IBM and SAP Team Up in Cloud

IBM now provides the cloud infrastructure running the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, allowing the expansion of the service to major markets with the addition of IBM cloud data centres.

HANA is the in-memory database speeding up the performance of SAP's ERP and CRM software.

"We look forward to extending one of the longest and most successful partnerships in the IT industry,” SAP CEO Bill McDermott says. “The demand for SAP HANA and the SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA in the cloud is tremendous and this global agreement with IBM heralds a new era of cloud collaboration. We anticipate customers will benefit from this collaboration and expansion of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud."

Cisco Adds Partners, Cash to Intercloud

Cisco continues building on its Intercloud effort-- the global cloud network gets over 30 partners, including the likes of Deutsche Telekom, BT, NTT DATA and Equinix, as well as another $1 billion in investment.

More new partners include Adapt, ANS Group, CGI Group, Cirrity, CTI, Ethan Group, Infront Systems, LightEdge Solutions, LG CNS, Logicalis, Long View, Netelligent, NWN, OneNeck IT Solutions, OnX Managed Services, Peak 10, Presidio, Proxios, PT Portugal/Oi, Quest Media and Supplies, Steria, Virtustream, Wipro, Dimension Data, Forsythe Technology, Presidio, World Wide Technology, Comstor, Ingram Micro and Tech Data.

According to the company the announcement expands the reach of the Intercloud by 250 additional data centers across 50 countries, providing customers with a cloud platform capable of handling the demands of the Internet of Things and high-value application workloads.

Rackspace Boosts Private Cloud

Rackspace launches the next release of the OpenStack-powered Rackspace Private Cloud-- one claiming an OpenStack API uptime guarantee of 99.99%, as well as increased scalability and DevOps automation services.

“Rackspace Private Cloud was designed to deliver stable API-driven OpenStack infrastructure so that our customers can focus on the development of business-critical, revenue-generating applications,” the company says. “Rackspace’s expertise in operating OpenStack clouds allows our customers to take advantage of a private cloud without investing in in-house operational expertise."

According to the company Private Cloud is scalable to hundreds of nodes, with Linux containers allowing customers to independently scale each service and perform seamless upgrades from one release to another.
