Intel announces the successor to the Intel X25-E Extreme-- the SSD 710 Series, a purpose-built Multi-Level Cell (MLC) data center SSD. 

The SSD 710 uses compute-quality 25nm MLC flash memory with Intel High Endurance Technology (HET), unlike the Single-Level Cell (SLC) using X25-E.

Intel says the SSD 710 achives out-of-the-box write endurance of up to 1.1 PB, with 4K random write performance of up to 2700 IOPS and 4K random read performance of up to 38500 IOPS.

Texas Memory Systems announces its first enterprise Multi-Level Cell (eMLC) product for Tier-1 storage situations-- the RamSan-810. 

It carries up to 10TB of eMLC flash in a compact 1U enclosure, and Texas Memory says it delivers up to 320000 IOPS and 4GB/s through its 8Gb Fibre Channel or QDR InfiniBand connections. 

Battery-backed RAM holds flash translation tables-- meaning data is not lost in the event of power loss.

Global Q2 2011 storage software revenues total $3.4Bn, growing by 11.3% Y-o-Y-- the 7th consecutive quarter of Y-o-Y growth according to IDC. 

The analyst says this growth is due to expensive investments within the infrastructure space during Q2. 

Storage Infrastructured Software and Storage & Device Mangagment Software see the biggest growth, with 22.6% and 17.3% Y-o-Y growth respectively. 

Data Protection and Recovery Software account for 32.4% of market value share, and provide the biggest increase in Q2 2011 revenue.

HP expands its converged storage portfolio with HP Peer Motion software, as well as the new HP P10000 3PAR storage systems.

Peer Motion is federated storage software, allowing clients to transparently move application workloads between disk systems in virtualised and cloud computing environments available for HP LeftHand and 3PAR storage systems.
