Other World Computing (OWC) announces the Jupiter mini-SAS at CES 2012-- a scalable storage solution aiming at small business and enterprises using mission-critical and creative applications. 

It uses the mini-SAS interface to reach speaeds of up to 24Gb/s. As a centralised storage solution, it stores data in a single location and allows simultaneous access by multiple workstations while streamlining workflows, eliminating bottlenecks and the need for file duplication.

IBM calls it "Racetrack Memory" even if it has nothing to do with neither cars nor horses-- but it might lead to future memory chips with the capacities of HDDs and the performance and durability of SSDs.

HP expands the Information Optimisation portfolio and announces the B6200 StoreOnce Backup System-- the first enterprise-class deduplication appliance from the company. 

The system can store up to 768TB in a single chassis, with backup or restore data speeds of up to 28TB per hour. It scales from 48TB (one node with no expansion unit) to 768TB (fully loaded 4-node configuration), with a deduplication ratio of around 20:1.

Forrester Research advices companies to skip tiered storage architectures in favour of moving to an all-SSD architecture, even if figuring out how to use such a system might be a "challenge."
