NEC and Sharp Merge Display Businesses

NEC and Sharp announce a joint venture-- one combining the NEC Display Solutions (NDS) subsidiary with Sharp, creating a single entity bringing together the strengths of the two companies in order to visualisation address the needs of global customers.

Sharp NECThe two companies are all but set to complement each other. After all, NDS is a strong presence in the display market, offering visual technology and digital signage solutions for a variety of markets. Meanwhile Sharp brings a decade-long history display solution, and offers advanced technologies such as next-gen 8K LCD monitors.

“This joint venture between Sharp and NEC Display Solutions will bring even greater value and benefits to customers and partners by extending our state-of-the-art product portfolios together with a range of professional service offerings," NDS says. "Sharp and NEC Display Solutions follow the same strategic approach to the future of visual solutions, focusing on superior customer satisfaction enabled by high quality products, sales leadership excellence and committed relationship building.”

The merger has NEC transfer 66% of NDS to Sharp, and retain a 34% stake in the business. The joint venture will continue to sell NEC-branded products, and NEC will sell products and solutions made by the joint venture to global customers. The deal is set to be inked on 1 July 2020.
