StorCentric Buys Retrospect

E-mail Print PDF

StorCentric, the parent company of Drobo and Nexsan, announces the acquisition of Retrospect, a privately-owned developer of backup and recovery software aimed at the consumer, professional and SMB markets.

StorCentricFinancial details of the deal are not available.

Retrospect backup and recovery software counts over 500000 customers in around 100 countries. It supports both consumers and SMBs with a range of backup and recovery capabilities, including support for servers, endpoints and virtual environments, as well as integration with over 20 cloud storage providers such as Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage and Dropbox.

Post-acquisition Retrospect is set to continue operating as an independent, wholly-owned StorCentric subsidiary. However, as one might expect, a version of Retrospect will be integrated with Drobo and sold to the SMB/prosumer market. The software will remain available separately for customers already using a storage or backup product.

StorCentric came into being following the August 2018 acquisition of Drobo and Nexsan, with Drobo CEO Mihir Shah taking the reins as CEO. As he puts it, “we laid out our strategy for StorCentric to unify exceptional technology and create a world-class storage company. This 3rd acquisition not only highlights the execution of our strategy, but also our unrelenting commitment to protect our customer’s digital information. We will continue to grow both organically and through further acquisitions."
