Object storage system vendor Cloudian acquires Infinity Storage, an Italian specialist in software-defined file storage solution. Financial details of the deal are not available.

CloudianCloudian says the acquisition will allow it to better integrate file and object storage into a "limitlessly scalable" storage pool able to reduce TCO by over 70% compared to traditional multi-silo NAS systems.

The two companies already have a history together-- Cloudian HyperFile NAS controller, a means to deliver enterprise-class file services from Cloudian HyperStore, is the result of a collaboration between the two. Cloudian HyperFile incorporates all NAS features enterprise applications demand, including SMB(CIFS)/NFS support, snapshot, WORM, non-disruptive failover, scale-out performance, POSIX compliance and Active Directory integration.

“This acquisition further accelerates Cloudian’s efforts to reduce IT workloads with self-protecting and easy-to-scale file systems that analysts agree are critical for next-generation storage management,” Cloudian says. “Not only does Infinity bring deep technology expertise to the table, but also our two companies’ cultures fit perfectly, with the same uncompromising dedication to the customer, to the team and to technical excellence. We are excited to be growing together.”

The two companies add scale-out platforms are an increasingly critical element of the IT landscape. According to Gartner, over 80% of enterprise data will be stored in scale-out storage systems in enterprise and cloud datacentres by 2021, up from 30% in 2017.
