Seagate Claims First Enterprise SSHD

E-mail Print PDF

Seagate claims it has the first enterprise hybrid drive-- the Enterprise Turbo SSHD, a combination of 3.5-inch 15K HDD with 32GB eMLC NAND flash cache promising 3 times the speed of a conventional 3.5-inch 15K drive.

Seagate SSHDAvailable in 300, 450 and 600GB capacities the Enterprise Turbo SSHD also features 128MB DRAM, SAS interface and operation at up to 900 IOPS.

The drive fine tunes storage tiering by caching at I/O level, thus addressing performance gaps and bottlenecks found in tiered system environments. It also offers a self-encryption option for maximum data-at-rest security.

Hybrid drives are already available in consumer systems (such as the Apple iMac), but the Enterprise Turbo SSHD promises enterprise-class features including higher reliability and rotational vibration tolerance.

The drives are shipping now, and are also available as an option in IBM System x servers.
