EMEA security appliance factory revenues grow by 5.2% Y-o-Y to $696.8 million during Q4 2012 according to IDC, while shipments reach 200089 units with 5.2% Y-o-Y growth.
For the whole of 2012 revenues total around $2.5 billion with 2% growth over 2011.
The W. European market shows similar results-- Q4 2012 revenues grow by 3.9% Y-o-Y to $522.9m and total 2012 revenues grow to almost $1.15 billion with flat 0.5% growth.
"A strong Q4 in W. Europe, mainly led by Unified Threat Management (UTM) results, helped security appliance market growth to remain positive in 2012," IDC says. "Demand for unified solutions remains as strong as ever, as simplified deployment and lower TCO are major selling points for these security solutions."
The market is even healthier in CEMA-- revenues grow by 9.5% Y-o-Y to $173.9m during Q4 2012 and by 7.2% to $593m for the full year 2012. According to the analyst many CEMA customers continue to acquire essential security appliances (such as firewall/VPN and IPS) and value appliance scalability together with the possbility to add further security functions to the same appliance in the future.
When it comes to the overall region, Cisco rules the EMEA vendor ratings with 19.6% Q4 2012 revenue share and 20.6% 2012 share. UTM is the largest security appliance segment, and is the only segment to show annual growth together with web security appliances.
"As happened with the firewall market a few years ago, unified threat management appliances are now cannibalizing the dedicated IPS standalone appliance revenue, as unified solutions are proving more and more popular in organizations of all sizes," IDC concludes.
