Cisco shells out $1.2 billion for more cloud technology and acquires Meraki, a cloud networking solutions provider with offices in New York, London and Mexico.
Meraki offers a cloud-based networking management solution for midmarket customers, providing software, network and device management through a browser-based dashboard. The solution supports BYOD, guest networking, application control, WAN optimisation, application firewall and other networking services.
Founded by MIT postgraduates back in 2006, Meraki previously received backing from Google, among others.
Once the all-cash deal closes Meraki becomes a new Cisco division known as the Cloud Networking Group. Its technology will also find use in Cisco's own Unified Access platform.
