World IPv6 Day: Great Success?

The Internet Society declares yesterday's IPv6 day was a success, and thus "demonstrates global readiness for IPv6", and thus the move towards a global IPv6-enabled internet.

The satellite blasted off to the atmosphere (reaching heights of around 36000km above the equator) from Baikonur, Kasakhstan on December 26 2010. Its broadcasts signals Read more...

The European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) and DANTE are preparing to deploy 100 Gbps connections across their networks-- thus upgrading the GÉANT network's 40 Gbps backbone.

The organisations require the boost in speeds to enable further collaboration in research covering areas including climate change, energy, food security, medicin and genetics, as well as allowing for new digitisation projects.

The GÉANT network should see 100 Gbps upgrades on its key routes in 2012, through collaboration with DANTE and NREN partners across E Read more...

Stansted-London Trains Get Connected

Travelers heading to London from Stansted Airport via the Stansted Express train route can now connect to the internet through Icomera's onboard internet solution.

Icomera not only supplies internet access for passengers on Bobardier's Class 379 trains, but also to staff and onboard systems-- including CCTv, passenger information and Bombardier's train management system.

The trains carry SureWAN technology which switches between (and aggregates) multiple mobile data networks to ensure always-on broadband connectivity throughout the entire train.  Read more...
