Western Digital joins forces with CTERA Networks to announce a joint solution bringing together the scalable HGST Active Archive System with the CTERA Enterprise File Services platform.

WD According to the two companies the solution allows organisations to build private clouds combining enterprise-grade file sharing, data protection and branch office file storage capabilities with object storage and cloud orchestration, all without the privacy, security and data sovereignty concerns involved with public SaaS solutions.

File services come in 3 flavours-- Enterprise File Sync and Share (a private cloud-based alternative to SaaS services), Cloud Storage Gateways (all-in-one centrally managed office storage appliances integrated NAS and cloud DR) and Endpoint and Server Backup (centrally managed data protection and backup agents for workstations and servers).

“Data across the enterprise comes in many types and formats and the rising number of disparate storage silos is causing fragmentation in corporate infrastructure,” WD says. “By certifying the solution with CTERA, the HGST Active Archive System enables any organization to deploy a private and secure cloud. Additionally, this will simplify the modernization of legacy data systems, which will allow enterprises and service providers to offer "IT-as-a-service" and accelerate business.”
