Arista Networks announces a range of 400G switches designed for large-scale virtualised and cloud networks-- the R3, the 3rd generation of R-Series universal spine switches consisting of the 7280R3, 7500R3 and 7800R3.

Airsta r seriesThe platforms support both 100 and 400G ethernet, together with enhanced telemetry and intelligence integrated into the network, making them ideal for emerging use cases such as 5G and edge computing. Based on Broadcom Jericho2 silicon, the platforms deliver advanced features such as updates to routing, security, automation, network monitoring, precision timing, VXLAN network virtualization (NV) and Ethernet virtual private networks (EVPN) through the Arista Extensible Operating System (EOS).

As mentioned earlier, the R3 series consists of 3 products. The 7280R fixed form switch offers up to 48 x 400G wire speed ports, with 19.2Tbps of non-blocking throughput. The 7500R is an upgrade on the 7500R. It is backwards compatible with the 7500R line cards, and delivers up to 288 x 400G ports. Last but definitely not least is the 7800R3, with 576 x 400G ports for a total switching capacity of 406 Tbps and 96 billion packets per second.

The R3 series products ship on Q3 2019 in 400G-OSFP or 400G-QSFP-DD configurations.
