W. European monitor sales are up by a record 35% Y-o-Y in March 2020, Context reports, leading to an overall increase of 18% Y-o-Y for Q1 2020, as the current pandemic crisis drives a need for better hardware.

Such results are beyond the expectation of analysts, even those who expected monitor sales to grow in H1 2020. The 2nd half of February saw distributors increase orders as customers prepared for future product shortages, understandable considering the shuttering of many factories in China. Eventual lockdowns in most European countries led to many employees to start working home, leading to a surge in demand for desktop monitors, as well as PCs and computing accessories.

CTOUCH debuts the Riva-- an interactive whiteboard aimed at education and SMBs featuring TrueBeam Touch technology, specified at a 1.5ms response time, -1mm touch accuracy and 32 touchpoints.

Using Triple S Glass, CTOUCH claims the display makes the writing experience feel more like writing on paper than on a screen while blocking palm writing. Two integrated JBL three-way speakers (tweeter, midrange and woofer) provide a surround sound-like experience. The CTOUCH Riva Operating System (COSTM) is based on Android 8, and includes splitscreen, control-your-display settings and even the ability to lock down the Android OS from the user.

BenQ Adds to RM Series IFPs

BenQ expands the RM series line of interactive flat panels (IFPs) with UHD models in 55-, 65- and 75-inch sizes. Designed for classrooms, the models leverage BenQ Smart Eye-Care features to help protect the eyes of the users.

The BenQ RM02K series have built-in cloud features and use the company's EZWrite 5 platform. EZWrite 5 claims to streamline classroom discussions by making it more intuitive for teachers and students to share ideas, notes and opinions via cloud whiteboarding, whether they are in the classroom or joining remotely.

IDC: Monitors Hit 5-Year High in Q4 2019

The global PC monitor market is up by 5% Y-o-Y in Q4 2019, IDC reports, as shipments exceed analyst expectations by reaching "just over" 33.2 million units, a number last exceeded back in Q4 2014.

Monitors also did well in full-year 2019, as shipments are up by 1.5%. Boosting such monitor momentum is the business segment, with device refresh projects further consolidating the market. In fact, the top 3 vendors-- Dell, HP and TPV-- hold nearly 50% of the 2019 market. Other factors further helped the market, including the increase in monitor sizes (23.8-inch screens overtook the 21.5-inch) and strong gaming monitor adoption.

Barco Expands LED Portfolio at ISE 2020

Barco follows on the 2019 launch of the premium XT series and the strategic partnership with Chinese LED manufacturer maker Unilumin by expanding its LED portfolio with five new models at ISE 2020.

The XT series narrow pitch pixel LED tiles are designed as high-end LEDs. Barco says it has mechanically optimised the Unilumin hardware for seamless viewing before adding Infinipix, a proprietary LED image processing solution. While the new XT-E and XT-HB are similar, they meet the variable needs of the targeted core segments, namely control rooms, TV studios, meeting rooms and 3D visualisation.

CTOUCH announces the ISE 2020 launch of an addition to the BRIX family of collaboration boards-- the Leddura 2Share Pro, an interactive whiteboard complete with built-in wireless content sharing.

Like most with most collaboration devices, users can share content on the Leddura 2Share Pro using either the company app or a web browser and on-screen code. According to Context, W. European desktop monitor distributor sales see growth in early Q4 2019, following the trend begun in the previous three quarters of the year, with higher demand from consumer channels driving the market.

Combined business- and consumer-targeted monitor sales are up by 7% Y-o-Y in October 2019. While Q3 2019 saw growth in business sales alone, both segments are up in October, with increased sales to consumer etail and retail driving overall growth. In fact, the typical November sales started picking up in October, with sales to consumer channels (etail and retail) in Germany, UK, Spain and France growing by 30% over September 2019. For instance, October 2019 sales are up by over 60% month-over-month in Germany.

HP Intros E344c Curved 34-inch Ultra-Wide Monitor

HP announces a curved ultra-wide display aimed at business and professional customers-- the E344c, a 34-inch number offering a 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440 x 1440 resolution, 300 nits brightness and a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Designed as a monitor for day-to-day work use, the E344c lacks media features such as speakers or a headphone output. Instead it provides an SVA panel with 16ms GtG response time, 60Hz refresh rate and 178-degree viewing angles. Connectivity comes through x1 DisplayPort 1.2, x1 HDMI 2.0 and x1 USB-C inputs, together with a dual-port USB 3.0 hub fed by an upstream USB-B port.
