HP presents the latest generation of Elite x2 notebook-tablet hybrid-- the 1012 G2, a Microsoft Surface Pro rival featuring the usual tablet-plus-keyboard form factor.

The 1012 G2 features a 12.3-inch 2736 x 1824 resolution display complete with Gorilla Glass 4 protection and Active Pen support. Inside the aluminium chassis is a choice of 7th generation Core i3, i5 or i7 CPU (maxing out at the Core i7-7600U), up to 16GB LPDDR3-1866 RAM, up to 1TB SSD storage and a 47 watt-hour battery promising up to 10 hours of use on a single charge (with quick charging powering the battery to 50% capacity in all of 30 minutes).

Connectivity comes through UCB-C with Thunderbolt 3 port, USB-A 3.0 port, microSD reader and a SIM slot for cellular connectivity. Also included are dual-band 802.11ac wifi, Bluetooth 4.2 and various options for connecting to 4G LTE and WiGig networks. Security comes through 5MP front-facing camera with IR for facial recognition and a fingerprint reader.

German OEM TrekStor is the company working on the first Windows 10-powered smartwatch-- a yet unnamed wearable device based on Windows 10 IoT Core able to run Universal Windows applications.

Announced in a Windows Blog post, the TrekStor smartwatch is primarily aimed at industry use, with applications such as retail inventory management, building automation, industrial automation, healthcare, asset management and fleet management. As Microsoft puts it, the device "allows various functions to be reported to the right place without any communicative detours, and messages can be transmitted silently in real-time or verbally via voice messages."

Apple and SAP release the fruit of the team up announced back in 2016-- the SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS, a toolset for developers wanting to build "enterprise-grade" iDevice apps

The SDK uses the Apple Swift programming language, and offers a selection of pre-built UI components and easy access to iPhone features (such as built-in sensors), all governed by business and security rules. As the name might suggest it also handles the data stored on the SAP Cloud Platform.

Also included in the bundle is Assistant, a Mac app that helps set up projects, and UI elements for the SAP Fiori design language conforming with the Apple Human Interface Guidelines.

Apple accuses Qualcomm of employing extortion, price-gouging and other monopolistic practices-- and as a result the iPhone maker is filing a $1 billion lawsuit against the semiconductor giant.

The lawsuit is filed in US District Court for the Southern district of California, and claims Qualcomm overcharges for chips and refuses to pay $1bn in promised rebates on "exclusivity or de facto exclusivity from Apple." It adds Qualcomm withheld the rebates because Apple is in discussions with the S. Korean antitrust regulator, the Korea Fair Trade Commission.

"If that were not enough, Qualcomm then attempted to extort Apple into changing its responses and providing false information to the KFTC in exchange for Qualcomm's release of those payments to Apple. Apple refused," the lawsuit reads.
