Nutanix Joins Google in Hybrid Cloud

E-mail Print PDF

Nutanix and Google announce a "strategic alliance" at the NEXT Conference 2017-- one allowing customers to deploy and manage traditional and cloud-based applications in hybrid cloud environments.

cloud managementEssentially, joint customers can blend the Nutanix environment with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for a combination of the best of private and public clouds. Management between GCP and Nutanix clouds comes through a single Nutanix Calm panel, complete with one-click application blueprints and easy migration between environments.

Meanwhile Nutanix Xi services on GCP allow Nutanix customers to extend datacentre environments to GCP, providing a unified fabric able to deliver both Mode 1 and Mode 2 applications. Enterprises can leverage a Xi Cloud Services Disaster Recover running in GCP, then run BigQuery analytics against the full application data set, without need for data migration operations.

On the container side, a joint solution combining Kubernetes, Google Container Engine (GKE) and Acropolis Container Services (ACS) provides an enterprise-grade container environment, including scalable persistent storage services for stateful application workloads.

In addition, the two companies will collaborate on Internet of Things (IoT) use-cases through the leveraging of Nutanix as an "intelligent edge" for GCP-based IoT applications by deploying TensorFlow for edge processing. Meanwhile the GCP handles machine learning models and processed metadata analytics.

“Hybrid cloud needs be a two-way street,” Nutanix sats. “The strategic alliance with Google demonstrates our commitment to simplify operations for our customers with a single enterprise cloud OS across both private and public clouds-- with ubiquity, extensibility and intuitive design.”
