Rackspace Opens Frankfurt Datacentre

Rackspace is the next company to expand in Europe-- the managed hosting provider announces plans to open a datacentre in Frankfurt, Germany, to service customers across the DACH region by mid-2017.

Rackspace datacentreBy the time it opens Rackspace will be running 12 datacentres worldwide, in cities including London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Dallas, Chicago and Ashburn (near Washington DC).

The facility will be handling of managed private clouds and hosting environments, with a focus on fully managed VMware environments. The announcement follows the appointment of Alex Fuerst as leader of Rackspace operations in DACH, and an in-region team will be taking care of customers wanting help the company's portfolio of multi-cloud environment services.

“We’re experiencing strong demand from DACH-centric customers, as well as US and EMEA-based multinationals who are looking for managed private clouds and hosting environments, along with managed cloud services and expertise for AWS and Azure in continental Europe," Fuerst says. "This data centre will strengthen our multi-cloud capabilities on the European continent and pave the way for us to achieve our goal of becoming the leading managed cloud provider in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, which is already our third largest international market.”

Frankfurt is becoming the locality of choice for many a cloud services provider wanting a European base-- big names including IBM, Microsoft and AWS have facilities in the city, and last week Chinese giant Alibaba announced it will be making use of a Vodafone datacentre in Frankfurt.
