Nutanix Runs Software on Cisco UCS

Nutanix independently validates its Enterprise Cloud Platform software to run on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) C-series servers, making it available on platforms from three of the four leading x86-based server vendors.

Cisco UCSFor the curious, the other two vendors in question are Dell and Lenovo.

Nutanix says it "extensively" tested its software on multiple UCS C-series rack-mount servers running business-critcal applications at scale, and can confirm Cisco customers can access all capabilities of the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud without need to change the networking architecture or operations of existing deployments.

Joint customers can also leverage on Cisco networking technologies, such Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI).

Interestingly, back in June the grapevine suggested Cisco was to partner with Nutanix to provide Nutanix software on UCS servers-- rumours Nutanix denied. As a blog post by Nutanix president Sudheesh Nair puts it, the company failed to get an OEM appliance agreement with Cisco, leading to a new "software-only approach specifically for UCS."

"Without intimate insight into the full hardware stack nor the foresight into upcoming hardware changes as we do with our OEM partners, we shifted our focus to responding quickly to UCS hardware updates as they appear on the market," Nair continues. "We are confident that Nutanix now can offer the similar world-class capabilities and software support to UCS shops as to our other NX and OEM customers."

The Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform for Cisco UCS C-series servers is available now through select Cisco and Nutanix partners.
