Nextcloud, the ownCloud fork, reaches its next version-- Nextcloud 9 (keeping with the numbering of the current ownCloud 9), offering new enterprise capabilities and security fixes.
Aforementioned enterprise capabilities include Windows Network Drive support, Shibboleth/SAML authentication integration, theming capabilities, secure WebRTC conferencing, online Collabra/LibreOffice integration and control over passport policies, all developed under an open source license. Also included are critical security fixes discovered by the company's Security Bug Bounty Program.
iDevice users also get an announcement with an official Nextcloud iOS client. Created in collaboration with Cryptocloud developer TWSweb, the client supports file handling, display, previews, organisation and automatic photo uploading.
Another addition is Enterprise Support Subscriptions-- a means for companies to buy an annual Nextcloud subscription covering 50 users. Smaller organisations also get a subscription option, dubbed the Speedbox Business appliance, providing Nextcloud and web conferencing capabilities in a hardware appliance complete with a one-year support contract.
In other Nextcloud-related announcements the company is now participating in the Open Cloud Mesh Initiative, the EU project (under the umbrella of research collaborative GÉANT) bringing together researchers and universities in Europe, the Americas and Asia through a series of interconnected private cloud.
