E-mail Print PDF

Chinese PC and server maker Lenovo announces a "strategic partnership" with open source-driven software-defined storage (OpenSDS) developer Nexenta in the name of driving adoption of next generation storage.

Lenovo serverThe partnership combines products from the two companies-- namely Lenovo x86 servers and software-defined storage-- with scale-up and scale-out reference architectures on flash, hybrid and spinning media systems. For instance, Lenovo System X servers will get NexentaStor file and block storage services and NexentaEdge scale-out block and object services with cluster-wide inline deduplication and compression.

Such solutions, the two companies say, are ideal for enterprise workloads including virtualisation, OpenStack clouds, general file sharing, backups and archiving. Capacities range from hundreds of terabytes to petabyte scale.

“Lenovo recognizes Software-Defined Storage as the strategic storage solution to deliver revolutionary economics for enterprise and cloud storage needs,” Lenovo says. “With Nexenta we will deliver innovative, trusted, and scalable enterprise storage solutions, leveraging Nexenta’s deep storage software R&D skills and Lenovo’s proven enterprise servers. The solutions will give customers the freedom to scale their data to meet business needs today and tomorrow.”
