E-mail Print PDF

Cisco sets to expand further into videoconferencing and collaboration, as it acquires London-based software and hardware vendor Acano for $700 million.

CiscoAcano makes collaboration infrastructure and conferencing software. It offers a portfolio complete with gateways and video/audio bridging technology allowing customers to connect video systems from multiple vendors across cloud and hybrid environments. Such capabilities are relevant for Cisco's interests, as the company says 90% of conference rooms lack video connections, marking an business opportunity in the segment.

“People, companies and organisations are more geographically dispersed than ever before, and collaboration is essential to helping teams increase productivity and drive growth,” Cisco says. “Acano’s innovations make it easier for customers to collaborate when, where and how they want. Together, we will help our customers to extend collaboration to every room, every screen and every user.”

Post-acquisition Acano will make part of the Cisco Collaboration Technology Group, where it joins a number of previous Cisco acquisitions, including Tandberg and WebEx Communications.
