E-mail Print PDF

Oracle pushes further towards the cloud as it announces additions to the Oracle Cloud Platform portfolio, bringing the total of cloud services offered to 24 as the company sets to become Amazon's top competitor.

Oracle HQAdditions include Database Cloud - Exadata (production databases), Archive Storage Cloud (long-term storage), Big Data Cloud (Hadoop and NoSQL databases), Integration Cloud (handles integration between Oracle and 3rd party applications), Mobile Cloud (enterprise mobility) and Process Cloud (lifecycle management).

“Oracle is the only company on the planet that can deliver a complete, integrated, standards-based suite of services at every layer of the cloud," Oracle founder (and former cloud cynic) Larry Ellison says. "Those technology advantages enable us to be much more cost-effective than our competitors. Our new Archive Storage service goes head-to-head with Amazon Glacier and it’s one-tenth their price.”

The company says its cloud efforts are going strong, with Oracle Cloud users currently reaching around 70 million with over 33 billion transactions daily. The cloud is also the one bright spot in Oracle's current results, even if it leads to revenue declines to due to the different payment systems involved.
