IBM Opens SoftLayer Datacentre in Germany

E-mail Print PDF

As part of its $1.2 billion cloud investment IBM opens a SoftLayer datacentre in Frankfurt, Germany-- the first in the country, one offering performance with adherence to European security and privacy regulations.

IBM SoftlayerIt complements the other European IBM cloud facilities in Amsterdam, London and Paris, and increases redundancy options and geographic diversity within EMEA.

"Data privacy regulations in the EU are among the most stringent in the world, and Germany has one of the strongest policies," SoftLayer says. "While all our cloud data centers have SoftLayer's same strict standards for security and privacy, the new Frankfurt facility will allow German companies and clients to benefit from in-country data storage, a requirement in many industries to comply with German data protection laws."

According to IBM the Frankfurt facility offers 10Gbps connections to Softlayer services, with 7 millisecond latency from SoftLayer's Amsterdam facility and 330 millisecond latency from other SoftLayer datacenters around the world. It features the standards SoftLayer pod design and offers a full range of cloud infrastructure services, including bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage, security and networking.

The company also says Germany is one of the top 5 EMEA countries in terms of IBM cloud revenues and growth, and expects the German cloud market to be worth €18 billion by 2017.
