HP Has Sprout in the Works?

E-mail Print PDF

According to Re/code the newly separate PC side of HP is working on an interesting "new computing experience"-- a flat screen display, touch input surface and overhead projector/3D scanner combo dubbed Sprout.

HPThe news site's unnamed sources say the overhead projector beams images downwards, on the touch surface. Users can interact with the images using either fingers or stylus, and can also add objects to the images by simply putting them on them on the surface, which is where the 3D scanner comes into play.

Re/code adds the Sprout will initially run on Windows but ChromeOS versions might appear in the future. It is reportedly the work of a team led by Eric Monsef, an ex-Apple hardware exec.

While no details are available on how the Sprout actually works (such as how the 3D scanner is activated), it is said to be designed for enterprise and prosumer use, as well as retailers and the education segment.

We should confirm whether Sprout actually exists on 29 October, when according to Re/code HP will have a launch event.
