Astrium Services announces the Skywan 5G at AfricaCom 2013-- a next generation satcom modem the company promises will bring further simplicity to satellite communications.
The Skywan 5G is a bi-directional MF-TDMA plus DVB system. It supports voice, video and data applications in the most bandwidth efficient manner, and enables star, mesh, multi-star or hybrid topologies with communications-on-the-move (COTM) support.
Each unit can act as either hub or master station, and Customers can even change topologies at a later stage, use the unit in other networks and split or pool networks together.
Peak LAN port IP rates reach up to 20Mbps in transit and receive directions.
At only 1 RU the Skywan 5G is also one of the smallest hub devices on the market able to support outdoor equipment via own power supply. It is rack-mountable and can be used as a tabletop device.
